The season did not start in the best way for Everton. The English side lost 1-0 to Chelsea and, as if that wasn't enough, they suffered injuries to two important players in Frank Lampard's side.
Yerry Mina, the Colombian defender for the English club, was substituted in the 70th minute of Saturday's game against the Blues because of severe pain in one of his ankles: "Mina has an ankle injury and could be out for a while. When it rains, it pours," coach Lampard told a news conference.
Meanwhile, the Everton boss confirmed that young Ben Godfrey, who was also replaced at the start of the game, suffered "a small fracture". "I think it will be months rather than weeks. We will assess it and know more in the next few days," said the former midfielder.
Everton will thus lose both players for the next few games. It is not the first time Mina has been injured at the start of a season. During the last campaign, the Colombian made just 13 of 38 Premier League 2021-22 appearances due to six muscle problems throughout the season.
