Cenk Tosun's lack of consistency in front of goal jas left the 'Toffees' on the search for a new striker and it is reportedly the Frenchman what is attracting the bulk of their attention.
Augustin joined the Germans from PSG last season and impressed in his maiden season in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals in 37 games in all competitions.
Still just 21, Augustin is considered one of the most talented young forwards of his generation in his homeland, though PSG's embarrassment of riches in atttack saw him push for a move away from the club to somewhere where he could develop in a first-team environment.
A France U21 international, Augustin is also capable of playing out wide or in a more withdrawn role, but his favourite position is by far as an out-and-out frontman.
However, any move for Augustin is complicated by Leipzig's demands, with the German side said to be holding out for almost £40m for the 21-year-old.
Everton are not thought to be willing to spend such a fee on the player, but they have one potential bargaining chip in the form of Ademola Lookman, who Leipzig are keen to re-sign having had him on loan in the second half of last season.
