During the Europa League game between Everton and Lyon, 'Toffees' defender Ashely Williams, in a fit of frustration, needlessly shoved over visiting goalkeeper Anthony Lopes when he gathered a corner. That sparked ugly scenes as Bertrand Traore and several other players took exception to the challenge and and ten-man brawl ensued.
The ugly scenes spilled all the way over to the advertising hoardings, where it appeared that Williams, along with an Everton fan may have thrown punches.
One particular Everton fan could be seen carrying his child as he looked to assault the opposition goalkeeper. There is simply no place for such behaviour in football.
There are likely to be repercussions for the club for failing to control their players and for the fan in question. Williams was booked for his role in the incident and later went on to score but it wasn't enough as Lyon ran out 2-1 winners.
