Everton drub lacklustre Manchester City

The Toffees punished Pep Guardiola's side with a dominant second half display as City fell even further behind leaders Chelsea and remain out of the top four.

The first 45 minutes were fairly even as both sides had chances to score. Everton had the ball in the back of the net when Seamus Coleman squared for Kevin Mirallas to tap home, but the former was rightly ruled offside in the build-up to the goal.

City had a few chances to equalise in quick succession. Firstly, Kevin De Bruyne played a dangerous ball across the face of the Everton goal, but Sergio Aguero just couldn't get a toe end on the ball which would have resulted in an inevitable goal.

Raheem Sterling then saw a left-footed half volley swerve wide from just outside of the area, and  Bakary Sagna's header was cleared off the line by young midfielder Tom Davies just before half-time.

However, it was the home side who went in ahead, when Lukaku fired Mirallas squared ball into Bravo's bottom left corner.

Just after the break, Everton doubled their lead. Mirallas fired a powerful low effort across Cladio Bravo to make it 2-0 to the home side.

Sergio Aguero then saw a low shot saved by Joel Robles and Yaya Toure had a free-kick saved comfortably by the Everton 'keeper.

Shortly after Toure's failed attempt, Everton went down the other end and Davies managed to make it 3-0 with a clever dinked finish, despite Lukaku's best efforts to get the final touch on the ball.

Ronald Koeman will be delighted with the contribution of his young players, as defender Mason Holgate managed to keep Aguero and later Kelechi Iheanacho quiet for the whole game, while Davies opened his account for the club.

However, it was another youngster who made it an even sweeter afternoon for the Toffees. January signing Ademola Lookman fired a low effort through the legs of Bravo to make it a truly miserable afternoon for Guardiola's men.

Everton stay in seventh position with 33 points, while City fail to regain their position in the top four, and could find themselves five points off the Champions League places if Liverpool beat Manchester rivals United.
