Senec, a town in Slovakia, hosted the first semi-final of the U19 European Championship. England and Italy went head to head, in a repeat of the final of the 2021 European Championship held at Wembley, although in a different age group.
England were generally the better team, but Italy struck the first blow. The Italians took the lead after 12 minutes, when Miretti converted a penalty that was given away by Norton-Cufty.
The English younsters withstood the onslaught during the worst minutes of the match, in a difficult start for the Young Lions, who hardly had any good chances to threaten the Azzurri with.
After the break, with Italy maintaining their pressure in the game, England responded through Scott's 58th minute equalizer, turning the game on its head with just over half an hour to go.
Quansah eventually turned the tie in England's favour in the 82nd minute, in England's best spell of the game which could have even seen a third goal scored. The 2-1 sends England through to fight for the under 19 European Championship title. The other semi will be played between France and Israel.
