England replace Forster with Southampton team-mate McCarthy

Allardyce has turned to Forster's club team-mate to join the England squad as Forster returned to Southampton to receive treatment on his injury.

Despite being a good opportunity for McCarthy, it does highlight a lack of English first choice goalkeepers in the Premier League. 

Stoke City's Jack Butland is still injured while West Brom 'keeper Ben Foster was overlooked by Allardyce.

McCarthy is yet to make an appearance for new club Southampton, but did make three appearances for England at U-21 level.
