The game had been scrappy in the first half, with neither side having concrete chances to get themselves in to the lead.
The untidy nature of the match was reflected in the goal that opened the scoring.
After a set-piece, the ball fell to Lucas Moura in the box, who took the ball wide and the shot back across goal.
The ball managed to strike the Watford defender in the stomach, who saw it bounce off him and spin in to the net past the diving Ben Foster.
With Doucoure's head in his hands in disbelief, the away side celebrated a fortunate goal that put them in the driver's seat.
