The Senegal international will miss out on the opening games of next season, after an independent regulatory commission found sufficient evidence to charge the striker.
The 25-year-old had joined Bristol from Ligue 1 outfit Angers last summer, and has tallied up 13 goals in his debut season yet will not be featuring in the start of City's upcoming campaign.
According to Bristol, they said in a statement that they were ''extremely disappointed'' with the commission's decision and would continue to offer ''full support'' to Diedhiou, who has ''vehemently denied the allegation''.
The club have requested that the commission put in writing the evidence that supports their decision as they consider a potential appeal against the suspension.
