Derdyck Boyata joins Hertha Berlin on a free transfer

The deal has been described as a long term one by the Daily Mail, as the Belgian defender swaps Glasgow for Berlin.

The director of the German club said: 'We've had Dedryck in our sights for some time now and are fully convinced of his qualities, and we are confident that he is a real reinforcement for our defence.'

Boyata has been at Celtic for 4 seasons, but fell out with former manager Brendan Rogers and has never been able to regain his place in the side since.

The Belgian international said on the deal  'The club is ambitious and has goals that I stand by and I was very impressed by how Michael Preetz tried to talk to me and showed me a clear plan.'
