De Marcos renews his contract with Athletic for another year

Oscar de Marcos announced, at the end of Sunday night's match at San Mames, that he will continue at Athletic Club, which he joined in 2009 and with which he will begin, in July, his 16th season as a ''Lion''.

It was a somewhat peculiar announcement because it came as part of a tribute to Iker Muniain, who is leaving, at the end of the season, a red and white team in which he has spent the same number of seasons as De Marcos, a total of 15.

De Marcos picked up the shirt with the number 2025 on the back from Muniain, who made his renewal official. When the 35-year-old showed it to the fans, the stands erupted in a thunderous ovation.

After this new renewal, all that remains to be known is whether or not Alex Berenguer, who on Wednesday in Vigo almost took it for granted, Dani Garcia and Ander Herrera will renew their contracts with Athletic for next season.
