What will happen with Matthijs de Ligt? The question that is asked almost on a daily basis. His future is still uncertain, he does not wish to make a decision till the end of the season in order to focus on winning trophies with Ajax... and he does not want to be separated from his 'brother' Frenkie de Jong.
The latest indications seem to be that De Ligt prefers a move to Barcelona, where his friend De Jong is heading. "I know what will happen with De Ligt" Josep Maria Bartomeu (the president of Barcelona) said.
Bartomeu has travelled around half of Europe on trips to Amsterdam and he personally closed the De Jong deal, when he seemed destined to join PSG. Now the objective is De Ligt.
Marc Overmars, the Ajax director, said on the 5th March that he would "love" it if Barcelona was the future destination of the club captain. Although he also said later that it was not his decision.
In the last few days, there have been other rumours circulating, with Juventus joining the hunt for De Ligt. They are searching for a new central defender as the careers of Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli come to an end.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are also not prepared to give up on the young defender, Mino Raiola is De Ligt's agent which means there are links to pretty much all those clubs for De Ligt.
De Jong has not said what he would like to happen, at least not publicly, telling 'AS' that "It is not something that concerns me. It is for him to decide, I am not going to interfere with his decision". De Jong said.
