De Gea could do nothing but watch Townsend find the top corner
A shaky start from Manchester United was only made worse in the 12th minute when the hosts took the lead.
Benteke passed the ball across the edge of the box for Andros Townsend to shoot first time and fire into the top corner.
It looked like a stunning opener but the replays showed that it went in with the aid of a huge deflection off Lindelof that completely wrong-footed De Gea.
