Dimitar Berbatov was not surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo's remarkable form at Manchester United. The Bulgarian and the Portuguese were team-mates in 2008-09, before he left Old Trafford for Real Madrid.
Despite having shared a dressing room for only one season, Berbatov was quick to recognise the Portuguese striker's incredible talent. He continues to impress the football world thanks to his scoring ability.
After Monday's match against Brentford at Old Trafford, where CR7 scored one of the team's three Premier League goals, Berbatov applauded Cristiano's work. The Bulgarian emphasised the respect he should receive because of his wonderful record.
"To be honest, I'm not surprised he's still doing so well. I had the pleasure of playing with him for a year at Manchester United, and that's when I got to know his preparation. I followed him throughout his career, so I'm not surprised to see him playing like this," he admitted in an interview with United.
"If he continues to look after his body the way he is doing now, I'm sure he will be able to play for three or four more years. Obviously, time waits for no one, and sometimes it can affect some of your qualities, but you have to be smart and start adjusting your football," he added.
At the same time, Berbatov highlighted Cristiano's current Premier League numbers. "One can be good beyond one's age, and Cristiano is one of those cases. He scored 18 goals at the age of 37, doing well in the best league in the world, so you have to respect him!
