The 'Cherries' won the match 2-0, with young midfielder Ryan Fraser scoring the first goal of the encounter.
It was Fraser who was the one to point out the incident, when in the 36th minute he stopped play to go and retrieve objects that had landed on the pitch to hand to referee Kevin Friend.
While no one was hurt in the incident, the FA will launch an investigation to find the culprit of the act.
This is not the first time that coin thwoing has been an issue in the English game, with West Brom's Chris Brunt being struck by a coin in 2016 and Man Utd defender Rio Ferdinand being hit in 2012.
