English publiaction 'The Daily Mail' reports that City sent scouts to watch Augsburg left-back Philipp Max as they drew 3-3 with Augsburg on Saturday.
The 24-year-old has been one of the stars of the season so far in Germany and has broken a club record after recording ten assists with just 17 games of the season gone.
A left-back is high on City's agenda in January, with midfielder Fabian Delph having been filling in there since Mendy suffered a serious knee injury in a challenge with Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend early on in his City career.
Max won a silver medal with Germany's Olympic team back in 2016 and has been tipped to be included in the 'Die Mannschaft' squad for next summer's World Cup in Russia.
The German isn't the only potential target for City though, with Pep Guardiola's side also considering Espanyol's Aaron Martin, according to the aformentioned source.
