The Napoli squad remain in precautionary quarantine as ordered by local authorities and will not travel to Turin to play their league game this Sunday (20:45 local time) against Juventus, but Serie A confirmed that, as it stands, they will be forfeiting the match.
If the league don't change their stance Napoli, who have seen multiple players return positive COVID-19 tests, will register a 3-0 defeat in the game against Juventus for not turning up.
Napoli, who will meet Real Sociedad in the Europa League, confirmed to 'EFE' on Saturday that they had been ordered not to travel shortly before boarding their flight to Turin as a precautionary measure in an effort to contain the outbreak.
They say that the order came from the Neopolitan Local Health Authority after Napoli registered three positive coronavirus tests from players Piotr Zielinski and Elijif Elmas as well as a member of coaching staff.
The situation is concerning because the club played against Genoa last Sunday, who have since registered 22 positive tests.
Therefore, Napoli find themselves isolated to their home city and will not be able to visit the Allianz Stadium this Sunday to play their league third league game of the season against Juventus.
However, Serie A released a statement an hour ago confirming that the game would go ahead as normal and Juventus has echoed this sentiment, saying that their players will be at the stadium, ready to play the game.
Moreover, in the hours building up to the game, Juventus announced their squad list chosen by head coach Andrea Pirlo.
In an attempt to ensure the game is delayed, the Napoli president has recently contacted Serie A, highlighting the fact that his club not being in Turin was "out of their hands".
