Carvajal's muscle problems, which meant he missed training for the second day in a row, will prevent him from playing in the Copa del Rey against Villarreal. Club sources also told 'EFE' that he is also very unlikely to play against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday at San Mames.
The Spaniard's absence means Madrid have problems in the right-back position, where Ancelotti lost Lucas Vazquez to injury in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final. Vazquez will be out of action for a month and a half.
The first decision the Italian coach has made is to resort to academy players and ask Vinicius Tobias to train with the first team. The Brazilian is on loan at Madrid from Shakhtar Donetsk and they have an option to buy him at the end of the season. He is a regular starter for Raul Gonzalez in the B team.
Vinicius Tobias was not the only academy player involved in the training session which saw Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez, David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni absent. Ancelotti also called up central defender Marvel and midfielder Javier Villar.
Madrid completed their second and final training session ahead of the cup tie with Villarreal. They are looking to put the Spanish Super Cup final defeat behind them. The players warmed up and did 'rondos' at the beginning of the session and Ancelotti will make changes for the match. The club have one draw and two losses to their name in their last three games.
