One of the few things still left unknown was how much Cardiff City would finally have to pay for the operation, which ended in very sad circumstances after Sala's plane crash.
FIFA decided to take action on the matter to avoid the unpleasant news being blocked out over the dispute between the two clubs. This Monday, they announced their decision about the discrepancy after having sent a letter to the two teams requesting a conciliation.
"In a meeting held on 25 September 2019 the FIFA Players' Status Committee established that Cardiff City FC must pay FC Nantes the sum of 6,000,000, corresponding to the first installment due in accordance with the transfer agreement concluded between the parties on 19 January 2019 for the transfer of the late Emiliano Sala from FC Nantes to Cardiff City FC". FIFA published.
At the time, the signing was agreed for the amount of 17 million, but the football governing body understood that, after not being able to have the footballer play for them, only the first payments provided in the contract formulas will be paid.
Moreover, FIFA also wanted to announce that "they never lost sight of the specific and unique circumstances of this tragic situation during the deliberations of the dispute and refrained from imposing procedural costs on the parties involved".
The decision was relayed to the parties on Monday and both clubs will have a 10-day period to file an appeal, if they deem appropriate, before the TAD in Lausanne.
