Towards the end of the first half, new Barcelona signing Lenglet went into a challenge with Girona's Pere Pons and made contact with his knee. The referee and Pons himself didn't initially think it was a foul, but after the intervention of VAR a foul was awarded.
Eventually the referee showed the Frenchman a red card for an alleged elbow to the Girona player. Busquets speaking about the incident said: ''Although there is contact, as seen in the photos, but the ball is on the floor, its a natural movement, it is not aggressive or malicious and he's not looking to hurt him, even the Girona player is apologising as he thinks he's committed the foul'' he declared.
Busquets believed that the sending off cost his team the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw between the two teams.
'Until the sending off, we were playing well, then, with one less man, we could not be on top. We tried, we weren't playing for a draw, we wanted to win, but playing with a man down was very hard, we made a massive physical effort.''
