The news about Haller's tumour is worse than hoped. Borussia Dortmund have published a statement informing the world that he is suffering from cancer and therefore, he will not be playing football for the foreseeable future.
"Sebastian will now receive the best treatment possible. The chances of recovery are very good. We wish him and his family a lot of strength and optimism and our thoughts are with him during this difficult time. We ask the media and fans to understand that we will not be publishing any medical details about Sebastian Haller's treatment further than the information previously released, neither today, nor in the coming months", declared Sebastian Kehl, sporting director of Dortmund.
At the start of July, Dortmund signed him from Ajax for a fee of over 30 million euros. However, on 19th July, they announced that he was suffering from "testicular cancer" about which more information is now available.
"The first stage has been taken. Thank you to Borussia Dortmund and to all the medical team for their exceptional treatment of me", wrote Haller in a post on his social media.
Now, Dortmund will have to look for a replacement for the Ivorian in a race against time. Borussia Dortmund will kick off their Bundesliga campaign on 6th August against Bayer Leverkusen.
