German Pezzella was given the huge responsibility of taking on the captaincy at 'La Viola' following Astori's sad passing earlier this year. Given the circumstances, the former Real Betis defender decided to use the promotion as an opportunity to pay tribute to his fallen comrade by wearing an armband dedicated to Astori.
However, whilst Serie A may deem the tribute to be banned, Pezzella's team-mates could not be more behind him.
"The captain's armband dedicated to Davide Astori is not up for discussion. If they want to fine us, we'll pay the fine," insisted Cristiano Biraghi this week.
Article 11 of the league's regulations states that: "The captain, in each of the competitions organised by the league, should wear, as a way of marking him out form the crowd, only armbands approved by the league itself".
The idea that Fiorentina's tribute could be deemed banned has caused a huge stir in Italy, with many accusing the league of lacking humanity.
