France, Belgium, England and Croatia are the four teams that still retain hopes of claiming the title of world's best. All four secured safe passage to the semi-finals, albeit in very different circumstances.
'Les Bleus' demonstrated patience and quality to see off a determined Uruguay, whilst Belgium showed their tactical flexibility to stun five-time winners Brazil. England eased past Sweden, who barely laid a glove on the 'Three Lions' throughout, whilst Croatia saw off a valiant Russia on penalties.
Following the conclusion of the quarter-finals, we consulted our very own football database ('ProFootballDB') to assess which players had performed best according to their ELO ratings and this is the team it came up with:
Jordan Pickford (England)
Mario Fernandes (Russia)
Harry Maguire (England)
Raphael Varane (France)
Domagoj Vida (Croatia)
Dele Alli (England)
Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)
Luka Modric (Croatia)
Eden Hazard (Belgium)
Antoine Griezmann (France)
Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)
