Besic replaced Tom Davies at half-time as Everton crashed to an uninspiring 2-0 defeat against Antonio Conte's men.
Speaking after the game, Everton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that the Bosnia international's father had been involved in an incident on Saturday, though he insisted that the decision to play was entirely down to Besic himself.
"I spoke to him and he said he is ready, committed, after the game we will talk to the family and see what he needs to do," said Koeman.
"It's always the decision of the player. It's a family question, he showed commitment and of course he spoke to his family [about] what happened."
Despite playing today it is thought that Besic will now be given compassionate leave in order to spend time with his family.
BeSoccer wishes Besic Sr a speedy recovery.
