Karim Benzema published a goodbye message on his social media on Tuesday, after the ceremony with the club that saw him bid farewell to Real Madrid, assuring that it had been a "privilege" to fight for the team for 14 years, and that he leaves with a "profound sense of gratitude".
"'Madridistas', after all my years here, the time has come to bid farewell to the club that has become my home, Real Madrid. I have had the privilege of wearing a legendary jersey and representing this emblematic club", wrote Benzema.
"I'm very grateful to my president, my teammates, to the coaches, to the staff and everyone who has been part of my journey at Real Madrid. Your unconditional support and faith in me have been essential for my development as a player and as a person", he added.
Benzema is leaving Real Madrid at his own request, to start a new stage in Saudi Arabia at the age of 35. "Although I am leaving Real Madrid, I will always carry a part of this club in my heart. It will always be an integral part of my life and I will continue to follow the successes of this extraordinary team," he said.
Finally, he left a special thank you to the fans: "Thank you all for the love and support you have given me over the years. I say goodbye with a deep sense of gratitude and an emotional farewell, Hala Madrid! With all my love".
