Despite arriving a couple of seasons back as one of Real Betis big singings, William Carvalho has yet to perform as well as he did for Sporting Lisbon and the Portuguese national team.
That has led to the midfielder being linked with a move away in recent months and Sporting's bitter rivals Benfica are the most interested in his services.
'A Bola' reports that the Lisbon based club are hurrying up to try and present a convincing offer for Betis to try and get hold of William Carvalho in the January transfer window.
The Portuguese paper say that Benfica's plan is to get Carvalho on a loan deal with a compulsory purcahse option which would be less than 15 million euros. That is not enough for a Betis side who paid 20 million for him.
However, the huge reduction in Betis' wage bill with his departure could play in Benfica's favour. It would allow them to bring in a reinforcement. At the moment, Manuel Pellegrini counts on him although if Benfica end up putting in a good offer, the player could pack his bags.
