Bayern have a Champions League match against Chelsea on 8th August and must arrive as fit as possible, therefore they have arranged a match against Marseille on 31st July at 16:00. The announcement is now official and appears on their website.
The reason for the match is the 'Audi Football Summit', a sporting event that will last a week and that is organised by the German club because the car manufacturer is their sponsor. The French side, who aren't in the Champions League, will use the match to get in tune ahead of Ligue 1.
"It comes at an optimal time in the run-up to the second leg of the Champions League last 16 match against Chelsea. The team and the coaching staff will be very focused and will work with high quality", the team's manager, Hansi Flick, said with regards to the match.
In the same statement in which Bayern provided these statements, they boasted about their opponents. They warned that Olympique de Marseille are the only French team to have won the Champions League, something vital as they prepare for this season's final phase.
