Bayern supports the Club World Cup: "Salaries are not paid from the sofa..."

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen expressed his support for the Club World Cup to be held from 15 June 2025 and said that the German club supports the competition.

Speaking to the sports portal ‘Sportschau’, on German public television, after the ECA club assembly in Athens, the Bavarian club's president said that, with the accumulation of matches, they will have to "see how" they manage it. However, he commented that the players of the six-time European champions "are happy" about the competition.

In justifying Bayern's backing for the new tournament, which will be made up of up to 32 clubs from around the world, he alluded to the rise in football salaries in recent years and how to deal with it. "The income has to come from somewhere. You can't pay wages from the sofa, we have to play for it," he said.

Asked about the possibility of stars, such as Bavarians' Harry Kane, choosing their fixtures in the future and prioritising one competition over another, Dreesen remarked that they cannot “do without” their best players “against supposedly weaker opponents” as “that would require a much bigger team, which is not feasible”.
