Barcelona midfielder Fermin credits Xavi Hernandez for Spain call-up

Fermin Lopez admitted to having "his feet on the ground" after his good debut with the Spanish national team in the 5-0 thrashing of Andorra at the Nuevo Vivero and was grateful for the confidence of Xavi Hernandez to fulfil the dream of becoming an international with the senior team and to be able to play at Euro 2024.

"I've fought hard, I've sacrificed a lot and I'm very happy for me and for my family. I try to make the most of every opportunity the coach gives me, I'm grateful to him and I have to keep preparing myself. There's always the illusion of going to the European Championship, but I don't know yet what will happen", he admitted in the mixed zone.

Fermin thanked his family for their support, who were in the stands at the Nuevo Vivero for his first game with 'la Roja', and for the way in which they have helped him through a few months that have changed his life.

"I'm handling it very naturally thanks to my family, I have the humility to know where I am and my feet on the ground," he acknowledged.

"I am very grateful to Xavi because he has given me the opportunity to fulfil my dream, because of him I am here and I will always be grateful to him," he added.

Before taking the field in the second half, De la Fuente advised Fermin to be the same player he was at Barcelona. "At the beginning I was a bit nervous, but then I was calm. I did what he asked me to do by being active and playing my game.

"I always try to take my chances to make it difficult, but it's up to the coach to decide," he said, not yet knowing if he will be among the 26 players who will travel to Germany for the European Championship.
