Barcelona approach Juventus for Federico Chiesa

Barcelona are on the lookout for a new left winger to complete their squad and have approached Juventus about Federico Chiesa. The Italy international has been on the sidelines since Thiago Motta was hired as coach, so the board, according to a report in ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, have indicated to Juventus that they would give the go-ahead to sell him.

The player himself would also agree to make his debut in La Liga. A fee of around 14 million euros would be needed to carry out the operation. The former Fiorentina man is out of contract next year, so it is understandable that the asking price he has been tagged with is below his market value. In addition, he earns around 5 million euros per season, the other figure that the ‘Cules’ budgets would have to cope with.

The Italian press adds to this leak that the Catalans have considered the option of bringing in Rafael Leao, but Milan consider him to be non-transferable. Even if he were, in fact, the financial outlook currently managed by the presidency of Joan Laporta is not firm enough to convince the ‘Rossoneri’. The Portuguese is worth more than 100 million and is tied until 2028. 

If Barcelona sign Federico Chiesa, they will compensate, at least positionally, their failure in the negotiations for Nico Williams, who, unless there is a last minute twist, has opted to stay at Athletic. The reinforcement of Dani Olmo has been made official, but it has not been possible to register him in La Liga for the time being. Hansi Flick could not even call him up for the win against Valencia on the opening day.
