The Paris Saint-Germain forward is set to leave in the summer when his contract expires and new La Liga champions Barcelona are hoping to lure their all-time top goalscorer back, despite strong interest from Saudi Arabia. Messi has had two lacklustre seasons in Paris after a glorious era at Barcelona where he won four Champions League and 10 La Liga titles, and is still worshipped by the fans there.
Therefore, seeing Leo Messi back in a Barcelona shirt is lots of fans' dreams, as well as president Joan Laporta. With this in mind, Laporta was asked about signing the Argentine after the club's 27th domestic title. In the early hours of Monday morning after Barcelona won 4-2 at Espanyol to clinch La Liga, Laporta said on Twitch that "we will do everything possible" to sign Messi.
Despite undoubtedly suffering a hangover from winning La Liga, the 'Cule's main man also spoke to 'RAC1' about the Argentine's possible return to the side. "Leo's still in Paris, with an unpleasant situation. I wouldn't want to bother him now. We'll try and improve the side all over", Laporta admitted who had up until then been quite conservative.
But the Barcelona president appeared slighty more optimistic: "I've spoken to Messi to get things back on track. It was very pleasant. We've got the relationship back. Messi loves Barca, he feels like this club is his home, but now it would be doing him a disservice".
The fact that Messi could go off an earn hundreds of millions from a potential deal in the Middle East doesn't appear to be worrying the Barcelona president: "We can compete with everyone. History backs us, the feelings are too strong, we have 400 million fans around the world too. Barca is Barca. They're doing a good job in Saudi Arabia, investing, but I insist that Barca is his home", Joan Laporta argued about the Argentine.
