In recent months there has been speculation over Barcelona having a right of first refusal over Saul or Gimenez. 'AS' says that these are not the only ones.
Barca, back in 2019, wanted to have the same privilege for Sergio Camello. In order to carry this out, the previously cited media outlet says that the footballer has to want to leave Atletico, the club must agree to his sale and they must be another offer from a third club. If all of this happens, the striker can join Barca, if the Catalans want him.
Atletico would have to notify Barca that all these criteria are met. Barca must also know the offer from the third club in question. If they match it, that would be enough to get Sergio Camello.
This right to refusal reportedly occurred at the end of 2019. Barca's Bartomeu had conversations with Griezmann for him to move to the Camp Nou, something which had already happened. But Atletico were not at all happy with the fact talks had taken place while the Frenchman still had an Atletico contract.
For Atletico to gladly accept Griezmann's departure, Barcelona paid them 15 million euros, according to 'AS'. They took advantage of this figure to earn the right to first refusal over several players such as Saul, Gimenez and Camello, according to the Spanish paper.
For now, Atletico have no intention of selling the striker. The club renewed him until 2026 and sent him on loan to Rayo Vallecano for him to return to the Wanda in June 2023 with experience under his belt.
