Barça learns from its mistakes with Dembélé: will renew Riqui before loaning him out

Riqui Puig is not in Xavi's plans. The midfielder from Barcelona got permission to be absent from the start of preseason this Monday, although he end up going. Xavi wanted to give him leeway, as he has done with other outgoing players, to resolve his future in the shortest possible time.

The club are worried about the midfielder, due to his contract. His current deal runs until 2023 and when he could leave the club on a free transfer. This could happen in 2022 with Ousmane Dembélé, who is already a free agent and with whom 'los cules' are still negotiating with to convince him to stay.

To make up for their mistakes, Barca will renew Riqui Puig before loaning him. This is how the newspaper 'Sport' reported it. Xavi believes that the player has to continue developing as a player in a team in which he plays a leading role. The club will not close this operation until the man who rose through the academy has signed a new contract.

Once his renewal has been made official, he will decide where to go. There are several offers for the 22 year-old. Benfica asked about him in Portugal and Maurizio Sarri would welcome him in his Lazio squad.
