Bayern Munich star Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe have won the Gerrd Muller Trophy, which rewards the best goalscorer of the past year. Congratulations to them! The Englishman scored 44 goals and provided 12 assists in his first campaign with the Bavarians. Meanwhile, the French star netted 44 goals and provided 11 assists last season.

Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony - Real Madrid boycott Ballon d'Or over perceived Vinicius snub

Real Madrid will stay away from the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday as they are convinced that their striker Vinicius, the favourite to win the men's award, has been snubbed.

The absence of the Real players and the club's declaration suggest that neither Vinicius, Carvajal nor Jude Bellingham, the architects of the club's European triumph, will win the trophy. All the nominees were invited to the ceremony in Paris this evening.

That could leave the way clear for Manchester City's Spanish midfielder Rodri, who won Euro 2024 and was named the tournament's best player by UEFA.

Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony - Who votes and what are the official criteria?

Although the criteria of the voting panel tend to generate controversy in each edition as to which items each ballot paper follows, here is UEFA's official explanation of what each judge must adhere to when making their assessment:

1) Individual performances, decisiveness and impact

2) Team performances and achievements

3) Class and fair play

The Ballon d'Or organisers decided to innovate this year by keeping the winner's identity a secret until the very end, to avoid any leaks to the press. In previous years, the winner was revealed a few days before the award ceremony. The prize is awarded by a jury of journalists representing the top 100 nations in the FIFA rankings.
