Southampton striker Charlie Austin has encouraged club supporters to stick by the team in this rough patch; the 'Saints' sit 16th in the Premier League table, with only one win all season. Yet Austin has stated that the team will need all the support possible in order to rejuvenate their form.
He told the 'Southern Daily Echo', "'I know the fans are getting frustrated and I understand that, but we're trying 100 per cent to get the second win of the season and push on. You only have to look around and you can see that everyone is on the edge because they don't know whether we are going to concede or score. It's hard not to feel it."
He continued: "'It's a frustrating time, but just keep getting behind us and it will come. If we weren't creating the chances, then it would be time to worry.'
Achieving wins is not the only issue hampering Mark Hughes' side; Southampton have struggled to find goals so far this season, scoring only 5 across their 10 matches in the Premier League.
Austin is confident that the goals will come soon, as the side are creating chances, but cannot seem to make them count at present. The forward is yet to find the net in the league himself.
The striker insisted: "We create chance after chance and loads of teams have been like it, we just can't put the ball in the net. As soon as we get that one in the net, it's going to snowball. Once it happens, we can all kick on because we are a strong side and we don't deserve to be in this situation."
Southampton's tough ride is set to get even more difficult, as their next Premier League fixture is against reining champions Manchester City, who themselves are unbeaten in all 10 league games so far this season, scoring 27 goals in the process.
