Just as James seemed set on a move to Napoli, Atlético Madrid appeared out of nowhere and are now ready to push to sign the Colombian international, who has been told by Zinedine Zidane that he doesn't have a future at 'Los Blancos'.
Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has publicly stated his desire to reunite with James, who he already signed for Bayern, whilst the player himself has been pictured posing with a group of friends who were all wearing Napoli shirts.
However, the Italian side are not willing to splash out on a permanent transfer for the Colombian, and would rather secure a loan deal with an option to buy at the end. This is where Atleti have taken the lead in the race.
At first, there wasn't a general consensus in favour of signing James at Atlético, but as the transfer market has advanced, the club have decided to press on with a move for the 27 year-old, who is reportedly keen to stay on in the Spanish capital.
So, 'ABC' have reported, Atleti are preparing an offer of 60 million Euros to neighbours Real, with 50 coming up front and the other 10 in add-ons.
