After saying an emotional goodbye to club legend Diego Godín on Sunday, Atlético Madrid must now turn to the transfer market as they look to find a replacement for their captain.
This will obviously be no mean feat, as the Uruguayan has been a key part of Atlético's famously resolute defence during the Simeone era and will take some replacing.
However, it is important that 'Los Colchoneros' move quickly to plug the gap left by Godín, with 21 year-old Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic reportedly the man to be tasked with replacing the outbound 33 year-old. Atlético made an approach for him last summer, but their offer was rejected by Fiorentina.
The Serb has spent just two seasons in Serie A after arriving from Partizan Belgrade, but has adapted quickly to become a stalwart in Fiorentina's defence, starting 36 games this season and scoring 3 times.
Atlético do enjoy a positive relationship with Fiorentina, where Simeone's son Giovanni currently plays, although any move for the young centre-back could be complicated by the competition they will face from other top clubs for Milenkovic's signature.
