Atletico Madrid had a night to forget at Anfield. An excellent start to the game for Liverpool put the hosts ahead against a team who were poor in defence.
Diogo Jota made it 1-0 early on after a cross by Alexander-Arnold which no one cleared and the Portuguese headed home unopposed.
The second goal was scored by Sadio Mane. Once again, the Liverpool full-back put in the cross, but it was more a shot than anything else and the Senegalese turned the ball past Oblak,
The nightmare was completed for Atletico in the first half. Felipe went to break down a counter on Mane and saw yellow.
Referee Danny Makkelie then called over Felipe on four occasions, the player did not come to him and he gave him a straight red. A second yellow could be supported, but a straight red was a very strange decision.
