Aspas, self-critical despite securing survival

Spain international Iago Aspas was highly critical of Celta Vigo's season, despite securing La Liga safety on the final day of the season with a win over FC Barcelona.

"Who would have thought a month and a half ago that we would have to play for survival on the last matchday. We've done things very badly and we've had to count on our fans again, as in previous years, to achieve that coveted safety", recalled the Galician team's top scorer.

Aspas believes Celta have not delivered throughout the championship, and named youngster Gabri Veiga, scorer of both goals in the win over the La Liga champions, as one of the keys to achieving safety.

"I think he has had a great season. It's true that he's had his ups and downs, as we've all had, but a midfielder who scores 11 goals is something to be proud of," he said.
