Arsenal have a challenge ahead of them in the upcoming transfer window: selling Pepe for a price that is worth their while. The Gunners brought the ex Lille player to the Emirates for 80 million euros. This figure is now far from his current valuation of 21.6 million euros. 'The Sun' has reported that the Gunners will try their luck in selling him this summer.
But why do the Gunners want to sell him? Two factors have emerged which answer this question. The first is that he has had less prominence in the team this season. He was an important player in the 2020/21 season, reflected by his 47 appearances. However, this season he has only started eight of his 20 appearances.
The second is as devious as it is intelligent. The player is contracted at Arsenal until 2024. Therefore, the longer the club waits to enagage in negotiations for the player, the lower the offers received are going to be. Ensuring his exit this year will avoid this from happening.
From Pepe's point of view, this could be an opportunity to try his luck in another of Europe's biggest leagues. He has already played in France, and now in England. Nothing yet has been reported, but their will most likely be clubs in the position to meet Arsenal's financial demands for the player should they wish to sign him this summer.
