Arsenal go into the Newcaslte game bruised after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham 3-0. The Gunners return to Premier League action on Saturday at St James' Park against Newcastle as they look to bounce back from their cup defeat. Ahead of the game, Arsenal's Spanish boss has updated on the condition of some of his players.
“We have an issue with him. He felt something in his knee and started to feel some pain after the game - we are assessing him, but it’s a big worry with him. He's going to be out for weeks. Big blow as he was getting some momentum and some minutes. We were starting to get the Emile that we needed but unfortunately, he is out," Arteta said of Smith Rowe's condition.
“I said that it will be weeks, but very difficult to put that time frame still, right now. This is football it is what happens he hasn't had a lot of muscle injuries it is true that the load that he had in the last few weeks to what he's done in the past even when he was at City has been very different and he's still adapting to it. We lost four big players in the last few weeks but it's the challenges that you have throughout the season,” Arteta added on Jesus.
It's not all bad injury news for the Spanish manager as it looks like Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard could be available for the game against the Magpies. In the last Carabao Cup game he was on the bench and played a few minutes.
“Yeah, we have tried to offload him a little bit as he had a little issue he was grappling with but he has done much better the last few days and it was good to see him make a contribution against West Ham. He will train today and if he is fine then he will be ready,” said the Gunners boss about the Arsenal captain.
