Argentina is 'not a racist country', says Liverpool star Mac Allister

The chants were heard during a live video posted on social media by Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from the team bus in the wake of the Copa victory over Colombia in Miami on Sunday.

Some players, including Fernandez, sing a chant dating back to the 2022 World Cup final in which Argentina beat France. The song targets France's star striker Kylian Mbappe among others and includes racist and homophobic insults.

Some Argentine players like Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister broke their silence about what happened to defend their compatriots and their country. "You have to be careful with what you say or do. The reality is that we are not a racist country," he began.

"We are not used to talking about racism so much. Enzo has already apologised and explained what happened. I don't think there's much more to say. We know Enzo, we know he would never do it with bad intentions, he's not that guy, he's not racist," the Liverpool player added.
