Angel can say goodbye to his Camp Nou dreams. The Catalan press has claimed that FC Barcelona have finally chosen Martin Braithwaite as Dembélé's replacement.
According to 'Sport', Angel's signing was all but confirmed, but the club decided against it at the very last minute.
The agreement reached between Barça and Getafe meant that the player was going to cost the Catalans six million euros plus two in add-ons, says 'Sport'.
Apparently, the agreement had already been reached when the two clubs faced each other in LaLiga, to the point where Angel scored... and didn't celebrate the goal out of respect for his possible new club.
However, FC Barcelona would have changed their mind. Sport' claims that the 'culés' would have ended up opting for Braithwaite of Leganés.
There are two reasons that would have led Barça to discard Angel and bet on Braithwaite. Firstly, it's a matter of preference for Quique Setién. He believes that his versatile profile is what suits the club best at the moment. Secondly, Angel's age. He is 32 years old and, if the club wants to sell the player later, ti would make it difficult for them to gain the investment back.
Barcelona is already thinking about the next season. Their big goal, always according to the Catalan newspaper, is Lautaro Martínez. They know that they will have to pay a lot of money to sign the talented Argentinian. But there's still a lot to figure out until the next transfer market reopens. For the moment, the one chosen to reinforce the attack is Martin Braithwaite, who will cost 18 million euros. In case Lautaro does eventually sign for Barcelona, questions will be asked as to whether Braithwaite will remain in the club or just stay for the rest of the season.
