Carlo Ancelotti was seen to be serious after he took Rodrygo off the pitch. The Italian reprimanded him, as could be seen in the images of the match.
A video from 'MovistarFutbol' shows Ancelotti's anger at Rodrygo after passing by him without looking at him. "You should greet me," the Italian said to Rodrygo, pointing his finger at him.
After the game, and with Madrid having already qualified for the quarter-finals with a 2-3 win over Villarreal, the coach spoke to the media and explained exactly what happened with Rodrygo. A gesture from the Brazilian prompted the coach to speak very seriously to him, although he doesn't believe he did it on purpose.
"Rodrygo did his job. He didn't greet me because I think he forgot... but for me it doesn't change anything," he said at a press conference at La Ceramica.
He also explained why he decided to take him off the pitch in the 56th minute: "The change? At half-time he had a muscle that was a little strained and I preferred not to take any risks".
Rodrygo returned to the starting line-up in the Copa del Rey after being a substitute in the 'Clasico' of the Spanish Super Cup final in Riyadh and left the pitch frustrated after 56 minutes, with Real Madrid losing 2-0 and after a game in which he did not excel.
