Alvaro Rodriguez follows in Raul's footsteps

History repeated on Saturday in the Spanish capital's derby. A Real Madrid academy player made his goalscoring debut against Atletico Madrid. Almost 20 years after the last time.

Going 1-0 down, 18-year-old Alvaro Rodriguez came to Madrid's rescue, heading in Modric's cross from a corner to level the scores at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Raul Gonzalez Blanco, his coach in the reserve team, made his debut in the same way. In his time as a player, the Castilla coach also scored his first goal against the 'Rojiblancos'. It was in 1994 and the result ended in favour of the 'Merengues' (4-2).

If he continues to be outstanding, the Uruguayan could be a striker for 'Los Blancos' for a much longer period of time. His main backer is the Spanish legend himself, who has coached him in the youth ranks.

Despite all the hype surrounding the young player, he has his feet firmly on the ground and knows his current role. It is none other than to help the reserve team to promotion to the second division, as they are third and only one point behind the first.
