The Belgian has just returned to full fitness following a serious hamstring problem suffered in the win over Real Madrid back in November.
He played 90 minutes of the FA Cup win over Notts County last week and had hoped to feature against Arsenal in Saturday's north London derby, however, manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to keep faith with Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez at the heart of the defence.
Now, according to English publication 'The Guardian', the 28-year-old will remain in London to work on his fitness when his team-mates head for Turin.
It remains to be seen what impact this will have on the contract talks between Spurs and Alderweireld that have been oging on for some time now.
Alderweireld's current deal expires in 2019 and whilst Spurs have the option to extend it by a further year, doing so would activate a £25m release clause in his contract.
