Akinfeev practised saving penalties with his legs and put it to the test against Spain

Akinfeev worked hard at the training ground in case their game against Spain came down to the penalty spot.

Russia managed to hold Spain to a 1-1 after extra time, and the hosts came out on top in the penalty shoot-out.

Akinfeev heriocally stopped two penalties in Moscow, one from Koke and one from Aspas.

Akinfeev's save of Aspas penalty was what got everyone talking, as he denied the Spaniard with a dangling left foot.

It has now emerged that the CSKA Moscow keeper had been practising exactly that kind of save during training.

The Russian national team official twitter account posted the video of Akinfeev making saves with his feet, just like the save he pulled off against Aspas.

The caption read: "Let's open you to a secret: it was Artem Dzyuba who trained Igor for the last questionable penalty in the shootout".
