A Poland howler handed Niang his first international goal

With the 'Lions of Teranga' leading thanks to a Thiago Cionek own goal, the onus was on Poland, ranked 8th in the world, to make something happen.

However, they served only to shoot themselves in the foot on the hour mark.

Seemingly smarting from being dispossessed numerous times during the game, Krychowiak opted to loft a ball back to his goalkeeper from inside the Senegal half, despite being under no pressure on this occasion.

Clearly taken by surprise Cionek was caught sleeping, causing Wojciech Szczesny to come racing off his line. He wasn't quick enough though, with M'Baye Niang stealing in to race clear and roll into the unguarded net for his first goal for his country with his first shot at goal of the World Cup.
