A Copa which brings an extra prize for Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti has his spot as the Real Madrid boss guaranteed for next season. Florentino Perez as full confidence in the Italian and made that clear after Real Madrid got the Copa del Rey after beating Osasuna 2-1 in the final.
The 'Merengues' got the trophy, but the one to triumph the most out of the night was Ancelotti. In recent months, he's been in the eye of a hurricane.
His future was speculated over, with some saying that he would only stay as Madrid boss if they won the Copa del Rey or the Champions League. In that sense, it's job done: the Bernabeu already has one of those and only time will tell what will happen in the Champions League after they are to go up against Manchester City in the semi-final.
Independently of what happens in Europe, 'AS' have reported that Ancelotti will stay at the side next season whatever happens and, he has more than earned that.
"I'd stay at Real Madrid my whole life", the coach said repeatedly. The Copa del Rey could be enough, at least to guarantee his spot there for the 2023-24 season, something which a lot of people were doubting".
After not winning the trophy for 9 years, the Copa del Rey is back in safe hands. Florentino Perez has no doubt that he has the best man for the job in the dugout and, at least for now, he doesn't need to look for a new manager.
