The interim manager at Southampton has been tasked with leading the club out of a relegation battle, following Mauricio Pellegrino's departure. Hughes' has only eight fixtures remaining in the Premier League to ensure survival for Southampton.
Southampton are currently only two points from safety in the league table, but Hughes is hoping that Redmond will be able to perform in front of the goal to ease the 'Saints' struggles this season.
Speaking to 'SkySports', Hughes said that the 24-year-old is ''a creative player: we need to score goals and create chances. We need him functioning and playing at the best of his ability. It's up to us to make sure we bring out the best in him.''
After an unimpressive season, Hughes is clear on his strategy to improve club results, he said ''it's about understanding where players feel problems lie. Sometimes the players' view is totally insular: it's a bit like they are in their own bubble and you have to understand that. Sometimes there is a bigger picture but players clearly will think about their own situation. It's about me having one-to-ones, sitting down with these guys, having an understanding of where they are coming from. Why certain players struggled at different times in the season.''
Hughes also praised Redmond as being ''very positive.''
Speaking more generally on the squad, the Welshman added: ''I will get the information that will hopefully allow them to perform better. I've had a good insight already."
