FT: Salzburg 1-1 Bayern! Debutants Salzburg deserve the plaudits tonight, ending Bayern's perfect record in the UEFA Champions League this season and almost securing a famous victory! It was nervy for the hosts for much of the second half and often dependent on heroic defending allied with some uncharacteristic wastefulness from the six-time champions. Relieved Bayern will know that the second leg looks like being some contest, should Salzburg show this much spirit and ruthlessness again.

GOAL for Bayern! The Bavarians equalise with seconds of normal time remaining! Pavard swings a hopeful ball towards the centre of the penalty area from near the byline on the right, and Müller nods the delivery on towards the far post. Kristensen is keeping a close eye on the lurking Lewandowski, leaving Coman free behind him to slot past Köhn at the goalkeeper's right-hand post. Agony for Salzburg, redemption for their opponents!

  • 87 '

  • 83 '
Coman is cautioned by the referee.
  • 82'
That Pavard block might just prove the turning point in this tie and you can see it in the players' faces. Bayern probably deserve to be level but are lucky not to be two down here.
  • 81 '
Salzburg almost have a second! Adeyemi bustles into the penalty area, shifts the ball to his right and sees his cross-shot stopped by Ulreich, who can only divert the ball into the path of Adamu in front of goal. His firm first-time shot is thwarted by Pavard's athletic block on the line, sending the ball behind. As much as Salzburg would have taken this position before the start, they might wonder how much that chance will count across the course of the tie.
  • 80 '
Bayern sub: Macel Sabitzer replaces Tolisso.
  • 80 '
Salzburg sub: Sucic on for Seiwald.
  • 78'
Wober is penalised for a foul on Choupo-Moting.
  • 77 '
Bayern sub: Choupo-Moting on for Gnabry.
  • 76 '
Superb goalkeeping! Sane exchanges quick passes with Coman down the left and inside the penalty area, rattling off a first time shot from close range that Köhn dives to paw away. Gnabry then looks almost certain to raise past the keeper and convert on the line, only for Köhn to rapidly reach across and extinguish the danger.
  • 75'
Coman is trying his best to get Bayern level here. The equaliser seems inevitable, but the hosts are holding on.
  • 75 '
Corner awarded to Salzburg, conceded by Sule.
  • 73 '
    Corner awarded to Bayern.
  • 70'
The fact Nagelsmann hasn't made any changes yet, despite the scoreline, exposes the lack of depth among the substitutes available to him tonight. Could Sabitzer or Choupo-Moting have an impact?
  • 69 '
Coman sends a cross bouncing beyond the far post from a promising position on the left. Bayern have little more than 20 minutes in which to level this match.
  • 67'
Capaldo is penalised for a foul on Coman.
  • 64 '
Sane tries his luck from a considerable distance out in a central position. It's awkward for Köhn, who watches the fierce low shot dip in front of him before skidding up into his arms.
  • 61 '
Gnabry enters the penalty area on the right and is dispossessed by Ulmer after trying to trick the Salzburg captain. Bayern are asking questions against opponents who are standing firm for the moment.
  • 55'
    Kristensen is flagged for offside.
  • 54'
Salzburg concede possession in their attempted break and end up conceding a corner on Bayern's right. Kimmich attempts to loft a cross towards the far post from the ensuing attack, and Kohn leaps to catch in front of his right-hand post.
  • 52 '
This is from Bayern's left. Salzburg clear and attempt to break.
  • 52 '
Brave defending by Solet, blocking a fierce strike by Coman inside the penalty area on the left behind.
  • 49 '
Faultless ambition by Seiward, immediately driving forward after collecting possession in a central position outside the penalty area. His powerful drive with the outside of his left foot is not fierce enough to worry Ulreich, who descends to his right to stop the shot and gather.
  • 48'
Muller is penalised for a foul on Camara
  • 47 '
Coman collects possession outside the penalty area to the left of centre, cuts inside, looks up and curls a shot beyond the attending Kristensen and goalkeeper Kohn's far post. That wasn't far from hitting the target.
  • 46'
Bayern start us off this time!
  • 45'
HT: Salzbur 1-0 Bayern! A passionate performance from Salzburg so far, who are fully aware of what is at stake tonight and are giving everything. Bayern have had more possession but Salzburg’s counterattacks and hit-and-run style are a consistent threat to the vistiors. The lead is deserved, and Aaronson could even have made it two.

    Foul by Seiwald on Sule.
  • 36'

  • 32 '
This is beyond the midway point of Bayern's half on the left. Seiwald curls a delivery towards the middle of the penalty area, where Süle stoops to head clear.

This is beyond the midway point of Bayern's half on the left. Seiwald curls a delivery towards the middle of the penalty area, where Süle stoops to head clear.
  • 30'
Bayern look shaken up by that goal. Salzburg are refusing to let them get control of the ball. If they keep this up – and there's still a long way to go – the hosts might just be able to pull this off.
  • 27'
    Muller is flagged for offside.
  • 25'
Adamu's well-taken goal was his first in the Champions League in what is his seventh appearance.
  • 24 '
Great save from Ulreich! Determined, nimble-footed work by Aaronson, holding off the advances of several Bayern players in tight space inside the penalty area and rattling off a shot on the turn that Ulreich dives to his right to parry away. Salzburg are seizing the momentum.
  • 21 '
GOAL for Salzburg! Salzburg's boldness is rewarded! The hosts win possession from a Bayern throw in well inside their half, sending Capaldo scampering down the right before cutting inside confidently and sending a low ball into the penalty area on the left. Aaronson applies a faint touch to the pass on its way to Adamu, who fires emphatically beyond the dive of Süle, past Ulreich and into the back of the net. 1-0!
  • 20'
Bayern have had 66% of the possession after 20 minutes – but that was to be expected.
  • 18 '
Bayern win their latest corner after Kohn sends a dangerous Coman cross from the right behind.

  • 12 '
Okafor has been injured and appears to have to leave the field of play.
  • 10 '
That's the closest Bayern have come so far! Gnabry collects a cross-field pass and leaves Ulmer off balance inside the penalty area on the right, shifting the ball swiftly to the left and curling a shot towards the far post. Kohn is equal to the effort, stretching to palm the strike away. Kohn clears.
  • 10'
An electrifying start to this game. Bayern are working tirelessly to get the ball forward but Salzburg are breaking with equal intensity whenever they regain possession.

  • PRVW
With just Choupo-Moting and Sabitzer among the senior attack-minded substitutes on the bench tonight, Nagelsmann will be hoping his star-studded front line can get the job done early. Other attacking options include Wanner (16), Vidovic (18) and Tillman (19).
  • PRVW
No surprise in Salzburg's starting line-up: exactly the 11 players we expected. Seiwald returns to the team after his knee injury, having made his comeback as a substitute last Friday.
  • PRVW
Salzburg lost both their Champions League matches against Bayern last season, but they have much fonder memories of a friendly match in 2014, when the Austrian side won 3-0 at home.
  • PRVW
As expected, Nagelsmann opts for a back three of Pavard, Sule and Hernandez, with Tolisso and Kimmich paired in the Doppelsechs in midfield. It's the strongest possible line-up available and a signal that Bayern mean business tonight.
